The 2026 MTV VMAs named Taylor Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia” Video of the Year, but their six professional craft categories told a wider visual story. Direction, art direction, cinematography, editing, choreography and visual effects were spread across five different works. MTV labels these categories non-votable, so their results should not be read as another audience poll or as a sweep by the top-video winner.

CBS and MTV announced a three-singer George Michael tribute for the 2026 VMAs, but CBS's post-show photo captions document Adam Lambert alongside RAYE, sombr and Teddy Swims. Vogue's event report records the songs and sombr's use of a jacket associated with Michael's 1988 tour. The archival photograph accompanying this article is from 2012, not the VMA stage.
